I have created 9 Days Out with itineraries for you to enjoy outdoor adventures local to our cottage, from ancient figures to waterfalls to stone circles and a castle – Day 1 is illustrated here.

Day 1

  • Janus Figure
  • Drumskinny Stone Circle
  • Drummoney Waterfall
  • Pettigo
  • Termon McGrath Castle

Day 1 – Only 5 to 25 minutes drive away & all FREE!

Janus Figure

In Caldragh Cemetery on Boa Island, Lower lough Erne stand two unique stone carvings. Explore the Janus Figures dating back more than 2000 years.

Drumskinny Stone Circle

The charming and accessible Drumskinny Stone Circle is a wonderful ancient formation and has an adjacent cairn dating back more than 4000 years.

Drummoney Falls

Drummoney Falls is a tranquil haven for a short walk, the stepped profile of the river here is due to the horizontal layers of sedimentary rock being slowly eroded by the Bannagh River.

Pettigo is a small village on the border of Donegal and Fermanagh. It is bisected by the Termon River.

Termon McGrath Castle

On the outskirts of Pettigo and built in the 16th Century is one of several castles belonging to the Clan Mcgrath. It is said to be the finest. The castle possesses some wonderful Elizabethan period military and domestic features.

Eating Out

I highly recommend the Woodhill Hunting Lodge restaurant, Irvinestown. Take aways are available too. Their Sunday lunch has a superb reputation! Call Gail to book your table or take away 028 6862 1863.

“We had a lovely long weekend at Anita’s place – the location is incredible right on beautiful Lough Erne. And Anita was a very generous host – we were travelling with our infant daughter and arrived to find a travel cot set up along with stair gates and a high chair already set up. Anita had also left a bunch of lovely surprises around the house as we were celebrating some significant birthdays. It is a very comfortable and properly set up house. The kitchen has all the essentials and was actually nice to cook in unlike so many places, and to top it off we arrived to find a bowl of freshly laid eggs from Anita’s chickens sitting in the fridge! We’ll be back to spend more time in this comfortable home in beautiful surrounds. Thanks Anita!” Oscar

Shamrock Cottage overlooks Lower Lough Erne and the cliffs of Magho in Co. Fermanagh situated midway between Belleek and Kesh. Experience solitude and tranquility sitting by the jetty and listening to the water lapping at your feet; you can soak in the atmosphere, fish or launch your canoe and explore the calming waters. You can walk around the gated 7 acres of young woodland and see the hares bounding across the grass, hear the buzzards calling and the swans taking flight across the lake.

Shamrock Cottage has NITB 5 star grading offering you the highest standard in self catering accommodation. You can have up to 6 guests staying, but unfortunately we cannot accept pets as we are beside farmland with sheep and cattle.
