FAQ

Is there a bbq?

Yes, we have a portable bbq. You will need to bring your own fuel for it though!

Any outdoor seating?

Yes, table and 4 chairs. There are also 4 small chairs for children.

Where is the nearest restaurant?

Finn Lough Resort is 1/2 mile down the road. If you are not a guest of the resort, tables are available by reservation. If you would like to go there for an evening meal please contact Finn Lough Kitchen on 02868 380360.

Where else can we eat out locally?

In Belleek the Black Cat Cove bar and restaurant offers excellent food every day, and music on certain nights. The Thatch is a good cafe.

In Kesh, the Mayfly Inn offers great food.

In Irvinestown – Joe 90s is one of the best takeaways locally. Worth the drive!

Where can we hire a boat from?

Dulrush Fishing Lodge is less than 10 minutes from Shamrock Cottage, on the road towards Belleek. James Gormley offers boat hire as well as taking people on tours of the lough. His trips have been throughly enjoyed and highly recommended by our guests.

Can I fish at the Cottage?

Yes! You can fish off the two jetty’s and our boys have caught pike, perch and trout from there. The water is deep within a short distance off the jetty and those areas attract fish.

You will need a licence and permit. You can buy all licences online. You need a combined licence and permit, you can select from game or coarse. Options are 3 day (£9.50) or 14 day (£20 for coarse, £26.50 for game). These cover you to fish anywhere in Northern Ireland.

Nearest fishing shop is in Belleek at back of The Thatch Cafe, Main Street – McGraths. In Enniskillen – Home, Field & Stream or Fishing Tackle and Bait. Fishing Tackle and Bait are mail order too so you could order items so that they are ready for you. There are other fishing tackle shops in Fermanagh.

Do I need a car to stay at your cottage?

Yes, we are ‘out in the sticks’ but not totally remote! We are 5 minutes drive from Pettigo, 10 minutes drive from either Kesh or Belleek.

Do I need to bring towels?

We supply towels for your use in the cottage. Bring your own towels for beach or outside use please.

Do you have a cot?

Yes, we can supply a travel cot but you need to ask for it in advance. We also have a booster seat (high chair), and child’s toilet seat. These are not stored at the cottage so you need to ask in advance.

Do you have a highchair?

We have a booster seat which fits onto an ordinary chair, and a high chair. Let me know which you need.

Do we have to check in at 4pm and out at 10am?

I am flexible with check in and out times depending on availability of the cottage. If no one is booked in on your departure day then I can offer a later check out time. It’s not guaranteed but I like to give people as long as possible to enjoy their stay.

What about cleaning the cottage?

I ask that you leave the cottage as close to the condition you found it in as possible. Many hands make light work and everyone helping out with the basics can help reduce the turn around time so you can check in earlier or out later.

Can I bring my dog?

Sorry, no pets are allowed at the cottage or on the site. There are 4 cottages on the site, all privately owned now, and we have a collective agreement for no pets. In addition the field adjacent to the cottage often has sheep, and cows with calves. A stray pet could cause a lot of harm to either animals, to the people walking them or the animals could harm the pet.

Can I have extra people visit? Can they stay over?

We are happy for you to have friends and family visit during your stay. The cottage can accommodate a maximum of 6 people staying, and I am happy for you to have up to that number staying. So for example if your group is booked as 4 for a few days but you would like 2 people to stay for 1 night during that time, I am happy to set up for them. We cannot accommodate more than 6 people and ask that you are respectful of that.

I supply bedding for up to 6 people so I will ask you to confirm the number of guests staying prior to your arrival so I can set up as necessary.

Can I bring my bike?

Yes, there may be room for it in the shed if you need it stored away. Lots of easy cycling locally especially in Tullychurry forest.

What can children do?

Lots to explore by the water’s edge, plus some fishing. You may need a wetsuit for swimming though! Easy access to the water if you bring a kayak or small boat. The site is gated so there are not many cars around and so cycling is safe on the driveway. There are green areas for kicking a football around! The Cottage has a box full of board games and a selection of books.

Is there a downstairs bedroom?

All bedrooms are upstairs. Downstairs is comprised of lounge, kitchen and bathroom (with walk in shower).

Why do I need to pay a damage deposit?

We ask for £200 as a damage deposit in case of significant damage to our cottage. We ask that you respect it and take good care of it. We are not going to charge for individual glasses or dishes broken. We may ask for a contribution towards the replacement of something larger that has been broken or damaged. It is assessed on a case by case basis. If there is no damage then your deposit will be returned within 1 week of your stay.

Do you supply firewood for the fire?

We include a basket of wood and some kindling for the fire. If you would like additional firewood we can supply this for £5 per bag. The wood is dry and seasoned and will burn well for you. We include kindling and newspapers to help you get the fire going. Please let us know in advance if you would like additional wood. A bag should be able to run a fire for an evening or two depending on how long the fire is running.
